Aqua Pennsylvania's Reservoirs Meeting Peak Water Demand

July 22, 2011

No water usage restrictions in effect despite heat wave

BRYN MAWR, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. (Aqua) announced today that its water reserves remain strong despite the increased usage resulting from the heat wave affecting the region.

"Thanks to higher-than-average rainfall this spring, our five reservoirs in Southeastern Pennsylvania entered the summer at full capacity with approximately 10 billion gallons of water," said Aqua America Chairman and CEO Nicholas DeBenedictis. "Now, despite a week of record temperatures and peak water demands, our reservoirs are currently at 95 percent capacity."

Aqua reported usage of 144 million gallons on July 21 and expects usage numbers today in the high 140s.

"Our impoundment reservoir storage allows the capture of water when it is plentiful for use when our customers need it most," DeBenedictis said. "As a result, we have not had to issue any water usage restrictions in the midst of higher demands."

Aqua provides water and wastewater services to approximately 1.4 million people throughout Pennsylvania, including 1.3 million people in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks and Berks counties.
