Plans to increase program by $11 Million in 2014

KANKAKEE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aqua Illinois, Inc. (Aqua) today announced that it is wrapping up its $13 million 2013 capital program. Most projects are finished and a few are still underway with projection completion dates by the end of the year.

Aqua's capital spending across its Illinois operating divisions includes:

  • $6.6 million throughout the Vermilion operating division including the City of Danville and the Villages of Tilton, Philo and Indianola.
  • $5.1 million throughout Kankakee and Will counties including the Kankakee water system, the University Park and Willowbrook divisions, and the Tri-Star Estates sewer system.
  • $1.3 million throughout the Northern Illinois operating divisions including Candlewick Lake, Oak Run, Hawthorn Woods, Ravenna, Ivanhoe, Fairhaven Estates, Moecherville, and Ellwood Greens.

Approximately 70 percent of the capital spending maintains or replaces water and sewer mains, water services and meters, hydrants, and sewer lift stations to assure continued, reliable service for customers. Treatment plant improvements account for 14 percent of the spending for continued compliance with state and federal regulations and quality water. Customer service expenditures amount to 12 percent of the spending to maintain and improve Aqua's field and office equipment and processes. Miscellaneous equipment and improvements comprise the remaining 4 percent of the spending.

"Aqua's 2013 infrastructure improvement projects reinforce our commitment to renewing and rehabilitating our water and wastewater systems and replacing the aged areas of our distribution systems throughout the communities we serve," said Terry Rakocy, Aqua Illinois President. "These investments are critical to ensuring that Aqua complies with state and federal water quality regulations, improving the reliability of water and wastewater service to our customers, and providing our local public safety professionals with the fire protection resources they need in the event of an emergency."

This year's program comes on the heels of the company's 2012 capital program, which included $14.7 million in similar improvements throughout the state. Aqua plans to increase on spending for infrastructure improvements to $24 million in Illinois in 2014.

Aqua serves approximately 62,000 water and wastewater customers in more than 42 communities in Illinois. Aqua serves customers in the counties of Kankakee, Boone, Knox, Champaign, Vermilion, Will, Kane, DeKalb, Cook and Lake. Visit aquaamerica.com for more information.
